Mount Ruapehu Volcano - Visible Image

On June 17, 1996, Mount Ruapehu erupted sending ash into the sky. This 4-kilometer Global Area Coverage (GAC) image from NOAA-14 shows the ash cloud blowing to the northeast for several hundred miles. Notice the snow in the mountains on the southern island of New Zealand. This image is one of the visible channels, Channel 2.
