Hortense was another hurricane which threatened the East Coast of the United States. This 1- kilometer High Resolution Picture Transmission (HRPT) image is from a NOAA-14 pass over Hortense in the early afternoon of September 13, 1996. Note the lack of shadows in this image as compared to the morning images of Fran ("HRPT - Hurricane Fran #1 and #2). This is due to the fact that the sun is almost directly overhead of the storm.
