Hurricane Fran #2 - HRPT

Another image of Hurricane Fran just before it slammed into the coast of the Carolinas. This 1-kilometer NOAA-12 High Resolution Picture Transmission (HRPT) image shows Fran south of Wilmington, North Carolina. Again, the map is shifted slightly to the east due to a navigational problem. Note the "fuzziness" of the western edge of the hurricane in this image. This is due to the fact that the Earth is round, and the satellite's imager is focused on the center of the image, causing distortion around the edges.
