3rd Generation D-level mean NDVI - 1996, Plate Carrée

Plate Carrée Projection of Third Generation D-Level (climatology) mean Normalized Difference Vegetation (NDVI) data from February, May, August and November 1996. The Third Generation images, shown in color, depict the climatological mean states. The dark green colors indicate dense, vigorous green vegetation while the yellow to brown colors indicate less and less vegetation. Note that the shades of brown are associated mainly with the arid areas of the earth. These images are D-Level, which represent the climatology (for the months January through March, the years from 1986 through 1991 were used and for months April through December the years 1985 through 1990 were used) of the earth. The D-level is extremely useful in climate analysis. By subtracting the C-level from the D-level product, one can derive the anomalous state. This product can be used for monitoring purposes.
